Jeff DeVoss received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Kansas. Upon graduation from law school, he relocated to Denver and entered private practice with an emphasis in litigation, handling cases before civil, appellate, criminal, and administrative tribunals. His practice also encompassed estate planning, entity formation, and transactional matters.
In the early 2000’s, Mr. DeVoss transitioned from the active practice of law into the corporate arena serving law firms and corporate legal departments with the management of their electronic document needs in support of litigation, investigatory, and compliance matters. He developed an expertise in various legal technologies and their application to the collection, identification, and handling of electronic evidence (eDiscovery). Through this experience, he became adept at understanding the needs and demands of establishing and running a business, including support services, staffing, logistics, operations, finances, marketing, as well as client acquisition and retention. During this time, Mr. DeVoss was never far from the practice of law handling a handful of legal matters while remaining active in the Colorado Bar Association and other professional organizations.
His interest in special needs and estate planning was borne from his care and support of his special needs son. With both a chromosomal and genetic disorder, his son has required lifelong planning and creative legal solutions to ensure his care and well-being. Through facing these challenges, Mr. DeVoss has been on a journey similar to many of our clients and has developed an empathetic approach to estate planning, probate, guardianship/conservatorship, and elder law, especially working with families and other interested parties to provide legal services due to a family member with special needs, whether from birth, a traumatic life event, or aging.
Mr. DeVoss remains active in the legal community as a member of the Colorado Bar Association, Arapahoe Bar Association, and the Thompson G. Marsh Inn of Court. Within the CBA, Mr. DeVoss is a past and current member of the Elder Law section as well as a past member of the Disability Law, Trust & Estate, and Litigation sections.
